BOGOR – Flood and landslide due to extreme weather with heavy rainfall since January 1, 2020 in Greater Jakarta and Lebak has caused casualties as well infrastructure damages. BPBD initiatives as responder and main institution in charge of disaster management at local level is demanded to deliver information related with early warning as well potential hazards to the community. 

 

Head of Data, Information and Disaster Communication of National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) Agus Wibowo states that strengthening capacity of the community in term of responding information of early warning, however coordination and warning from local government as well strengthened because of main duty of the national and local government to always inform and warn the community. 

 

“All this time, a programme is made to strengthen local capacity, however it is the duty of government at national and local level to continuously inform the community. It is needed strengthening to local government and BPBD in term delivering information regarding with early warning to the community so that they will notice what to do and to prepare,” Agus said in a dialogue at RRI Bogor with a theme “Together We Prepared and Ready” with volunteer in Katulampa Dam, Bogor (7/1). 

 

Strengthening capacity at local level as individual through a family has been socialized by BNPB by launching a programme namely Family Disaster Resilience (Katana) that is expected to share knowledge about disaster. After knowing, the families are expected to realize and response actively all information delivered so that awareness is created and finally spread to the community. 

 

To grow community’s response towards early warning and information is not an easy thing to do. Head of Sub-section of Preparedness BPBD Bogor City Ari Priyono said about a proposal towards how to build active response within the community of Bogor towards information. 

 

“To create culture will never be separated from the local wisdom of each region. Bogor is an urban city filled with people who most of their time is spent on work trips using transportation. Bogor City BPBD is proposing cooperation with the transportation industry so that disaster information and knowledge can continue to be embedded in the city of Bogor so that the response we hope can be achieved is that of people who are disaster response," Ari said.

 

The Dialog Outside Studio is also a space for discussion of experiences with various groups of volunteers from Bogor City who are quite active in disaster management, not only during emergency response, but from mitigation to post-disaster activities. The Coordinator of Katulampa Dam Guard, known as Kuncen Ciliwung Andi Sudirman, emphasized that community acceptance or response is the main thing and important to be improved

 

"Citizens' acceptance or response becomes the main thing when we convey information related to early warning and disaster. Early warning systems or information channels that are created as sophisticated as any without active community response will be in vain. Disaster knowledge must be transmitted to the public with a maximum," Ari said.

 

On the same occasion, the representative of the Bogor Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Adi also reminded the weather prediction and the potential for disasters that will occur after January 1, 2020. "The rainy season is still ongoing, although the intensity is not as great as it happened at the beginning of the year. watch out because this cycle will still last and repeat until mid-February, "Adi explained.
